Chicago

sugar infancy of the pieces playing on state street
starting out, cooling down the nerves
sweet smelling odor-eliminators and a toaster on the floor
the only plug in the kitchen that works is one of those low ones
you know?
the collapse of our lungs was choreographed
pat down our glee and switch the shapes of the alphabet
a bird on a window has black wings and a red body
it’s just a bird on a window with black wings
and a red body.
at 5 o’clock i was nervous
at 5:30 i was asleep
change the lock of my survival
the key is in the kitchen hanging from a red balloon
filled with music shaken out of the park near my apartment
